At the beginning of English 1060, I was very eager to take this class. I was previously in Dr. Carey’s English 1050 class, and I really enjoyed it. Finding out that we would be doing a big project with Hip Hop as its main focus, I felt that the course would be a breeze. However, my laziness, assumptions, and stressed out schedule led me into a rocky semester. Although I was off to a rough start, I tried to always communicate and participate during class discussions. Conferences with Dr. Carey were very helpful towards the end of the semester. She always gives great advice, and she keeps it real. By providing me with helpful hints, I was able to complete some of my assignments with ease.
Throughout the course we received instruction on how to write a research inquiry and a rich description, annotate and cite sources properly, develop a multi-sentence thesis, write strong core paragraphs, and much more. These instructions were helpful while writing my research paper. At first, I was finding difficulty finding a research question that would be easy to find information on about drug use. But after a few conferences, I was relieved to change up my question and find information that was relative.
English 1060 taught me a lot about time management, library research, writing and editing, and even about myself as a college student. In the end, I think I successfully completed the course and deserve the grade of a B. Despite the fact that I feel that I am an A student, I don’t deserve one. I appreciated all of the feedback that I received from Dr. Carey and my fellow classmates throughout the semester, and I will always keep them in mind for the future.
